Puddlekit was born to Heronflight along with his sister Sparkkit. His mother died from giving birth, so a young queen named Beefrost had to take them in. Puddlekit's father Brambleflame came to visit him and his sister. Brackenflame took an intrest in Sparkkit rather than Puddlekit. But soon Brambleflame caught greencough and passed away since the medicine cat's herbs were not working.
